DESERT SERIES #4 (2023)
Desert Series #4 was born from my journey to reconnect with myself during a time of displacement and isolation. Separated from family, country, and culture during lockdown, I turned to art as a way of finding stability. The intricate, repetitive patterns in this piece became my form of meditation—a practice of mindfulness that anchored me through uncertainty. Drawing from the earthy tones of the Central Desert, the colour palette brings a sense of warmth, calm, and connection to a landscape that feels like home. Over the course of two months, each line became a moment of grounding, a step back towards myself. The piece is a meditation on what it means to be far from home and of placed-based identity in a time of separation.
Desert Series #4 (2023) was exhibited at the Koorie Art Show 2023 and winner of the Koorie Heritage Trust Encouragement Award.
